Tendulkar Committee report on estimating poverty. The report submitted
by Rangarajan to Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh recently stated
that the number of poor in India was much higher in 2011-12 at 29.5%
of the population. What was the poverty figure stated for the same
year in the Suresh Tendulkar Committee report, which was severely
criticized for its findings? – 21.9%(According to the Rangarajan
panel, poverty stood at 38.2% in 2009-10 and slid to 29.5% in 2011-12.
This is at variance with the Tendulkar methodology under which poverty
was estimated at 29.8% in 2009-10 and declined to 21.9% in 2011-12.
This finding of C.Rangarajan committee means that 3 out of 10 persons
in India are poor. The Planning Commission in May 2012 had constituted

methodology for estimating poverty
