1. Iconic watch brands HMT
Watches and HMT Chinar Watches
- both subsidiaries of HMT Ltd -
soon to go out of existence.
- The company, incurring losses
since 2000, posted the net loss of
Rs 242.47 crore just for 2012-13.
- The company was established in
1961 in collaboration with Japan's
Citizen Watch.
2. Government clears
disinvestment in 3 CPSEs namely
Coal India Limited (CIL), Oil and
Natural Gas Company (ONGC) and
National Hydro Power Corporation
(NHPC).
- Cente is going to generate close
to Rs 43,000 crore from the sale
of its stake in these 3 CPSEs.
- Rs 23,000 Crore from liquidation
of 10% stake in CIL
- Rs 18,000 Crore from 5% in
ONGC
- Rs 2,800 Crore from 11.36% in
NHPC
3. Union government clears
Phase-V of the Unique
Identification (UID) scheme for
undertaking enrolments in the
four States of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,
Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand.
- Over 67 crore Aadhaar numbers
have been allotted by the UIDAI
since its inception in August
2010.
- The phase-V aims to take this
tally to over a billion by 2015.
4. Torn between Billiards and
Snooker; Pankaj Advani to quit the
latter
- He will retire from professional
snooker after the conclusion of
Indian Snooker Open 2014 to be
held in Pune from September
19-24.
- The decision seeks to prolong
his career in Billiards by awarding
him with enough practice time.
5. Centre approves 28 rural road
projects in Leh (6) and Kargil (22)
districts of Jammu and Kashmir
under the Pradhan Mantri Gram
Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).
- The proposed 350-km road
network is expected to cost Rs.
438 crores.
