1. Khushbir Kaur becomes the first Indian woman to win a medal in race
walking in the ongoing Asian Games.
- She bagged a silver medal in 20 km event.
- India added two more gold medals with victories of Seema Poonia in
women's discus throw and pair of Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni in
mixed doubles tennis.
- India is currently placed at 9th place with a tally of 6 gold 7
silver and 29 bronze.
2. Europe extends Ryder Cup domination by defeating the United States
for the 8th time in last 10 events.
- The 40th edition of this biennial men's golf competition between
teams from Europe and the US, was held in Gleneagles, Scotland.
- Its named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy.
3. Spain's constitutional court declares Catalonia's 'independence
referendum' illegal.
- Catalonia, a north-eastern region of Spain, is going to hold
independence referendum on 9 November 2014
- The verdict is sure to flare the temper of pro-secessionist who are
busy in campaigning and preparations for the plebiscites.
- Its one of Spain's richest and most highly industrialized regions.
- It comprises most of the territory of the former Principality of
Catalonia, with the remainder now part of France.
4. Jaipur Literature Festival, the world's largest free literary
festival, introduces a new prize 'The Ojas Art Award'.
- The prize, worth Rs. 51,000 and Rs. 31,000, will be given to two
Indian artists.
- It will be presented in partnership with Delhi-based art
organization Ojas Art.
