1. Beji Caid Essebsi is elected as
the President of Tunisia - the
birthplace of Arab Spring.
The country took about 4 years to
make the free and fair democratic
transition after the chaotic
uprising of 2011 which toppled
dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
The 88-year old leader heads the
secular Nidaa Tounes (Call for
Tunisia) party.
He clinched the election by
defeating incumbent Prime
Minister Moncef Marzouki in the
Presidential run-off vote.
2. Jyotsna Suri becomes the new
President of the Federation of
Indian Chambers of Commerce &
Industry (FICCI).
She, chairperson of Bharat Hotels,
succeeded Sidharth Birla to the
office.
Alok B Shriram is appointed as
the president of PHD Chamber of
Commerce and Industry.
3. Shiva Keshavan clinches silver
medal in the men's category of
the 17th Asian Luge
Championships being held at
Nagano, Japan.
The five-time Olympian is the first
Indian representative to compete
in luge at the Winter Olympic
Games.
He had won gold medals in the
2011 and 2012 edition of the
same event.
4. Nation observes ' 3rd National
Mathematics Day' on December
22, 2014.
Its celebrated to mark the birth
anniversary of the greatest Indian
Mathematician Srinivasa
Ramanujan.
It was established by the former
PM Manmohan Singh in 2012 on
the occasion of 125th birth
anniversary of the great
mathematician.
5. Sachin Tendulkar is appointed
as the brand ambassador for ICC
Cricket World Cup 2015.
His job is to promote and support
different ICC initiatives to enhance
the profile of the world cup
tournament taking place in
Australia and New Zealand.
Its the second time he is playing
this role - first being in the
previous world cup - in 2011.
