1. Cristiano Ronaldo breaks the record for most goals in a Champions League season.

- The Real Madrid striker's 2 goals against the Bayern Munich in the semi-final, eased him past the previous record holders Lionel Messi (for Barcelona 2011-12) & Jose Altafini (for AC Milan in 1962-63) - both had 14 goals to their credit.

- He has now scored 66 Champions League goals overall just 5 short of the leader Raul's tally of 71 goals.

2. Switzerland and Norway are the world's most expensive economies, followed by Bermuda, Australia and Denmark, according to a new ranking by the World Bank.

- The findings are based on the review of economic data which seeks to compensate for exchange rate effects and measure spending power across countries.

- The richest countries with the highest gross domestic product (GDP) per capita on a purchasing power parity basis, are Qatar, Macao, Luxembourg, Kuwait, and Brunei.

- The economies with the lowest prices are Egypt, Pakistan, Myanmar, Ethiopia and Laos.

- The United States, the world's largest economy, was in relatively affordable 25th place.

- As per the World Bank report, almost half the world's $90.6 trillion in total economic output in 2011 came from low- and middle-income countries.

3. International Workers' Day 2014 is observed across various parts of the world on May 1.

- The annual day, promoted by the international labour movement, is a celebration of labour and the working classes.

- Over 80 countries observe national public holiday on this occasion.

- Many countries celebrate a Labour Day unrelated to International Workers' Day on other dates significant to the labour movement in that country.

- For example, US celebrates it on the first Monday of every September.

4. India's paralympic swimmer Sharath Gayakwad ends up his campaign at the IDM Berlin 2014 with two bronze and one silver medals.

- He was the sole Indian representative there at the IDM (International German Championships).

- He is also the first Indian swimmer to qualify for the Paralympics (2012).

5. Anand Kripalu takes over as the Chief Executive Officer of Liquor firm United Spirits Limited.

6. Prominent theatre personality Khaled Chowdhury breathes his last at 95.

- He was known for brilliant stage craft in Bengali and Hindi plays.

- He received the Padma Bhushan for his significant contribution to theatre in January 2012
