3. Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi has been ranked the 2nd best airport in the world for its service quality among airports handling 25-40 million passengers per annum for the third consecutive year.
- Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is at fifth spot (same category) in the index that has been published by the Airport Council International.
- ACI is a global body of airports covering 1,751 airports across 174 countries.
- It represents their interests vis-a-vis governments and international organisations.
- IGI, however, came 6th as against 4th last year in the overall global ranking.
4. India has been elected to the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the next four years (2014-18).
- It will be the nation's 2nd stint there after the first one from 2006 to 2010.
- The body has 24 member states.
5. Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha of Indian Army becomes one of the 5 members appointed for UN Expert Panel on Technology and Innovation in UN Peacekeeping.
- The panel is headed by Ms Jane Holl Lute of United States.
- It is mandated to come out with road-map for employing technological innovations in improving operational effectiveness, multiplying impact and enhancing safety and security of Peacekeepers.
6. The All India Institute of Medical Science (New Delhi) is all set to become the country’s first ‘green hospital’.
- Being a green hospital means it will predominantly dump conventional sources of energy in favour of green energy for its functioning.
- That means using solar energy, water harvesting and better waste management.
