1. Real Madrid clinches their 10th 'UEFA Champions League' trophy having stunned Atletico Madrid in the final by a scoreline of 4-1.

- Real Madrid, trailing 0-1 a couple of minutes before the end of play, equalized in 93rd minute to extend the final into extra time.

- Real decimated Atletico with 3 more goals in extra time to finish with an emphatic victory.

2. Japan conquers its maiden Thomas Cup trophy having pipped five-time champion Malaysia in a marathon final by 3 matches to 2.

- It now is only the fourth country, after Indonesia (13 times), China (9) and Malaysia (5) to lift the coveted Cup.

- Sadly for Malaysia, the defeat extended their 22-year wait for a sixth title.

- This was their ninth runner-up finish and first since 2002.

3. Wojciech Jaruzelski, Poland's last communist leader, dies at 90

- He died just days before Poland would mark 25th anniversary of parliamentary election in which country voted against the country's communist rulers and in support of the Solidarity freedom movement that formed Poland's first democratic government in over four decades.

4. Poorna, a 14-year old girl from Andhra Pradesh, becomes the youngest woman to climb Mount Everest.

- She was also the part of a dozen-odd group, in November last year, that became the youngest group to climb Mount Renock.

5. Micromax, India’s 2nd largest handset maker, appoints Vineet Taneja as its new Chief Executive Officer.

- Taneja, prior to it, was the Country Head for IT & Mobile businesses of Samsung India.

6. Kathleen Stephens to be the new interim US Ambassador to India to fill in for previous ambassador Nancy Powell.

- He will serve as such until the appointment of a new permanent ambassador to India.

7. CS Verma, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) Chairman, gets honoured with the ‘CEO of the Year’ at the 2014 Platts Global Metals Awards.

- The award was presented to him in recognition of a comprehensive leadership style demonstrated by him to place SAIL on the path of robust growth in spite of price volatility and increased competition.
