1. Ahmet Davutoglu becomes the
new Prime Minister of Turkey.
- He replaces Recep Tayyip
Erdogan who is now serving as
the nation's first directly elected
President.
2. Supreme Court rules all coal
mining licenses (218) awarded
between 1993 and 2010 as illicit.
- The apex court deems that the
rights to mine were given to
companies in unfair and non-
transparent manner.
- Though the court is still to
decide if the licenses should be
canceled.
3. Nagpur becomes the first
Indian city to operate public
buses running on ethanol.
- The pilot scheme ushers "The
Green Bus project" in the country
which seeks to reduce our
dependence on petrol and diesel.
- The carbon-dioxide emissions
from the bus will be as low as 75
per cent to 90 per cent -
depending on the purity of
ethanol.
4. Centre appoints RN Ravi as the
new Chief of Joint Intelligence
Committee for a 3-year term.
- The committee analyzes
intelligence gathered by various
intelligence agencies like IB and
RAW.
- It operates under the National
Security Council Secretariat.
