1. HL Dattu to be the next Chief
Justice of India; take over from
incumbent RM Lodha after
September 27, 2014.
- He will be the 42nd Chief Justice
of India.
- If 'Collegium System' comes into
effect before his retirement in
December 2015, he will be the last
CJI to be elected under this
structure.
- 'Collegium System' appoints the
senior-most judge of the Supreme
Court as the CJI.
2. India celebrates 'Teacher's Day'
today on September 5; world
observes 'International Day of
Charity'.
- The day (latter) is observed to
laud the efforts of charitable
organizations and individuals
across the world while organizing
events to promote this benevolent
practice among masses.
- It marks the death anniversary
of Mother Teresa.
- Teacher's Day, whereas, marks
the birthday of second President
of India, academic philosopher Dr
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
3. Sachin Tendulkar's
autobiography 'Playing It My Way'
to be released on November 6,
2014.
- The book has been co-authored
by Boria Majumdar.
4. Centre streamlines visa related
services for foreign students
studying in India; grants more
powers to the Foreigner
Registration Offices.
- At present, there are about
93,300 foreign students studying
in the country.
