1. A new 'World Trade Centre'
building rises up at the same spot
where its twin predecessors
were razed to rubbles by the al-
Qaida on September 11, 2001.
- The 1,776-foot skyscraper,
designed by architect David
Childs, is now called 'One World
Trade Center'.
- The height signifies the year
(1776) of declaration of US'
independence from Britain.
2. BSF opts for modernization:
Sand scooters to fill in for camels
for border patrolling in desert of
Rajasthan
- BSF is the only force in the
country to employ camels for
their operations.
- Camels are gradually becoming
expensive and unfeasible owing
to various reasons like; decline in
numbers, rising cost of training
and maintenance etc.
- However, there is no plan for
now to phase them out
completely as there are activities
where they are more useful than
their mechanized counterparts.
3. India has 243 million Internet
users; Mumbai tops the city list
with 16.4 million followed by
Delhi (12.1 million) and Kolkata
(6.27 million).
- The study has been conducted
by the Internet and Mobile
Association of India (IAMAI) and
IMRB.
- Bangalore (5.99 million) and
Chennai (5.58 million) rounds off
the top five.
