1. Banks will now send
mandatory SMS alerts for cheque
transactions to pre-empt fraud.
- Both the payer and drawer will
receive the SMS sent by the bank.
- Customers will also get
confirmation phone calls in case
of suspicious or high-value
cheques.
- Until now, SMS alerts were
mandatory only for card
transactions.
- The latest RBI decree is a step to
boost security in the business of
cheque clearance.
2. PM lays foundation stone of the
Trade Facilitation Centre and
Crafts Museum for weavers in his
constituency Varanasi.
- The Trade Facilitation Centre is
meant to develop and promote
handloom products.
- He also adopts a village, named
Jayapur, under his "Saansad
Adarsh Gram Yojana".
3. India gifts Fast Attack Craft 'INS
Tarasa' to Seychelles.
- Its the second Indian Fast Attack
Craft (FAC) to be given to
Seychelles (Coast Guard) after the
handover of SCG Topaz (formerly
INS Tarmugli) in 2005.
4. Another Naval disaster: A 31-
year old Torpedo Recovery Vessel
of Indian Navy (A 72) has sunk off
the coast of Visakhapatnam.
- TRV is an auxiliary vessel which
is used to recover practice
torpedoes fired by fleet ships and
submarines.
- Out of 28 personnel aboard, one
sailor has died while 4 are
reported missing.
5. Lionel Messi is now the joint
highest goal-scorer in Champions
League history with Raul.
- He equalled the 71-goal record
of Raul with a double in a match
against Ajax.
- Cristiano Ronaldo is close
behind with 70 goals.
6. Sanjay Baweja has been
appointed as the Chief Financial
Officer (CFO) of India's largest e-
retailer 'Flipkart'.
