1. Shakib Al Hasan becomes only
the third player in test cricket
history to score a century and
grab 10 wickets in a match.
- The record was created in the
second Test with Zimbabwe
which Bangladesh won by 162
runs.
- Ian Botham of England and
Imran Khan of Pakistan are the
other two to achieve this
magnificent feat.
2. Yemen's former president Ali
Abdullah Saleh banned by UNSC
for threatening the peace and
stability of the country and
obstructing the political peace
process.
- The sanction - global travel ban
and asset freeze - also extends to
two Houthi rebel commanders.
3. Jet Airways bans shipment of
shark fins in order to protect
declining shark populations and
to preserve marine ecosystems.
- The largest Indian carrier joins
the list of other airlines which
have done the same following the
appeal by Human Society
International (HSI).
4. Popular mobile app Quixey, the
so-called 'Search Engine for apps',
is going to buy Bengaluru-based
mobile application start-up
Dexetra.
- Quixey forms partnerships with
manufacturers, carriers, search
engines, and browsers
worldwide to navigate users to
apps of their choice.
- Quixey is backed by global e-
commerce major Alibaba.
5. Indian-origin politician Keith
Vaz becomes Labour MP of the
Year for his significant work for
underrepresented, deprived and
minority sections of the country.
- The annual award is given by
the Patchwork Foundation.
6. NTPC's first International
Technical Summit titled 'Global
Energy Technology Summit' (GETS)
2014 inaugurated.
7. "Swacchta" will be the main
theme for 3-day long Rashtriya
Bal Film Mela which is to be held
from November 14-16, 2014, at
Siri fort Auditorium, New Delhi.
- The festival is planned for the
first time in Delhi on the sidelines
of Childrens' day celebrations.
