1. No petrol in Delhi without valid
pollution certificates from
December 1, 2014.
- All petrol pumps will have to
install PUC centres by this month-
end to check the same.
- Petrol pumps across the city will
also be manned by police to
ensure the smooth conduction of
affairs.
2. Only 5% of all marriages are
inter-caste in India: India Human
Development Survey
- The survey has been conducted
by the National Council for
Applied Economic Research
(NCAER) and the University of
Maryland.
- The practice of touchability is
still entrenched in the country
with about 30 per cent rural and
20 per cent of urban households
indulged in this.
- Inter-caste marriages were
rarest in Madhya Pradesh (under
1 per cent) and most common in
Gujarat and Bihar (over 11 per
cent).
3. Haribhau Bagde of BJP has
been elected unopposed as the
new Speaker of the Maharashtra
Legislative Assembly.
- The post of Leader of
Opposition went to Shiv Sena's
Eknath Shinde.
4. The 25th ASEAN Summit kicks
off at Nay Pyi Taw - the capital of
Myanmar.
- The leaders are expected to
adopt the ASEAN Joint Statement
on Climate Change here apart
from creating a roadmap for
future directions of the
organization.
- The Summit provides platform
for the South East Asian Nations
to strengthen co-operation,
coordination and synergy among
themselves.
- ASEAN is a political and
economic organization of ten
Southeast Asian countries namely:
Indonesia, Malaysia, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand,
Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar
(Burma) and Vietnam.
- Indian PM is also there to attend
the 12th India-ASEAN Summit
which is held on the sidelines of
the main event.
5. Bollywood filmmaker Ravi
Chopra breathes his last at 68.
- He, son of veteran filmmaker BR
Chopra, is known for directing
the super popular TV serial
Mahabharata in the late eighties.
- Baghban, Baabul and The
Burning Train are few of his
noteworthy directorials.
6. Lee Chong Wei - the world no. 1
badminton player - has
provisionally been banned by
Badminton World Federation
(BWF) for doping.
- There will be another final
testing of his samples to establish
the fact the he clearly violated the
anti-doping regulation during the
BWF World Championships held in
August 2014.
