1. Justice Mukul Mudgal to replace Ajit Prakash Shah as the new
chairperson of Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC).
- BCCC is a self-regulatorybody for non-news channels.
- He, a former chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, had
chaired the Supreme Court appointed committee mandated to look into
Indian Premier League match-fixing allegations.
- He also was the chairman of committee set up by the I&B ministry to
propose changes in the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
2. Arvind Kejriwal steps down as Delhi chief minister.
- He did so after failing to table the jan lokpal bill in the assembly.
- The minority government of his party AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) could
only last for 49 days.
3. Italian PM Enrico Letta resigns having lost the no-confidence vote
brought by his own party.
- President Giorgio Napolitano may now call upon Matteo Renzi to form
what will be the country's third administration in a year
4. World Radio Day 2014 observed on February 13th across the globe.
- The day, proclaimed as such by UNESCO in November 2011, has "Gender
Equality and Women's Empowerment in Radio" as its theme for this year.
5. India and Poland agree to form Joint Working Group for Co-operation
in the Films sector.
- The two countries will also work in the area of restoration and
digitization of Film archives.
6. Dennis Woodside, chief executive of Motorola, leaves the company to
be the chief operating officer of cloud storage facility 'Dropbox'.
- Google owned Motorola was sold to Lenovo for $2.9 billion some 2 weeks back.
7. Acclaimed filmmaker Balu Mahendra dies of heart attack at 75.
- His movies Veedu (1988) and Vanna Vanna Pookkal (1992) had won the
national award for the best feature film in Tamil while Sandhya Raagam
(1990) would win the award for best film on family welfare.
- He had started his career in the industry as a cinematographerfor
the Malayalam movie 'Nellu' in 1974
8. Rakuten, Japanese e-commerce major, to purchase famous call and
messaging app provider Viber Media for $900 million.
9. Delhi Police launches a helpline number '1093' for North East people.
- It will help them register all kinds of complaints including those
of racism and harassment.
