1. Telengana will be the 29th state of India following passage of bill
in Rajya Sabha.
- Presidential assent will complete the process of bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
- Total constituents now stands at 29 States and 7 Union Territories.
2. Election Commission Releases electorate data for 2014 Lok Sabha elections :
- Total electorate - 814,591,184 (81 crore) out of which 2.8%
(23,161,296) electors are aged between 18-19 years i.e. first time
voters.
- Proportion of newly eligible electors : Highest - Dadra & Nagar
Haveli (9.88%) ; 2nd Jharkhand- 9.03%. Lowest - Andaman & Nicobar
Islands (1.12%) ; 2nd lowest - Himachal Pradesh (1.33%).
3. Senior IAS officer Yaduvendra Mathur appointed Chairman and
Managing Director of Exim Bank (Export Import Bank of India).
- He replaces TCA Ranganathan following his retirement.
4. Government constitutes M.P. Bezbaruah Committee to look into the
"Concerns" (Racism, discrimination,security ) of the Persons from
North Eastern States of India living in Different Parts of country.
- The committee will examine causes behind them and suggest remedial
measures (legal also) to address them.
5. India's first "Minority Cyber Village" : Chandoli (Alwar,
Rajasthan) has been selected to be pilot project as its more than 80%
population is minority and are educationally backward.
- Project entails providing computer education/skills for people in
15-59 age group
6. Eastern and Western Naval Fleets of Indian Navy conduts their
largest combat exercise "Tropex- 2014", in Bay of Bengal.
- Month long exercise will see the participation of INS Viraat,
nuclear submarine INS Chakra and other flagsheep warships of Indian
Navy.
