1. 2014 Nobel Prize for literature
goes to French author Patrick
Modiano.
2. Centre to name its ambitious
Urban Housing Mission after
Sardar Patel.
- The comprehensive mission,
that aims to provide housing for
all by 2022, has been created by
merging and improving existing
urban housing schemes.
- Thirty million houses would be
built by 2022, mostly for the
economically-weaker sections
and low income groups, through
public-private-partnership,
interest subsidy and increased
flow of resources to housing
sector.
3. Leela Samson steps down as
the Chairperson of Sangeet Natak
Akademi.
- The renowned Bharatnatyam
dancer was elevated to this office
by the UPA government in August
2010 for a 5-year period.
- The Sangeet Natak Akademi is
India's national academy for all
performing arts.
4. Veteran journalist MV Kamath
breathes his last at 93.
- The former chairman of Prasar
Bharati was a Padma Bhushan
recipient in 2004.
- He has penned over 50 books in
his prolific career.
5. Aamir Khan has been
appointed UNICEF Ambassador
for South Asia.
- He will support UNICEF work to
promote the right of South Asian
children to nutrition.
6. NCC National Games 2014 to
take place in Delhi from October 8
- 18.
- Nearly 2000 cadets from 17
State Directorates representing all
states and Union Territories in
the country are participating
across 8 disciplines.
