- The day is celebrated to raise

taking action to reduce their risk
to disasters.
- The theme for this year is
'Resilience is for Life'.
- The focus this year is on older
people and the role they can play
in resilience-building through
their experience and knowledge.
4. PM launched his pet project
'Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana'.
- A Member of Parliament must
identify a village and turn it into a
'model village' by 2016.
- The village must not belong to
the MP or his/her in-laws.
- The village has to be from the
nearby rural areas and not from
their urban constituencies.
- Two more villages will be taken
up under the scheme for the
2016-19 period.
- The logic behind the project is
to make the most of various
government schemes - often
worked in isolation - by weeding
out the shortcomings under
unified command.
5. 2014 Nobel Prize for Economics goes to French economist Jean Tirole
for his analysis of market power and regulation.
- The prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine,
Literature, and Peace have been awarded since the inception of Nobel
Prize in 1901, however the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences was
created in 1968.
- The economics prize is officially called the Sveriges Riksbank Prize
in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel.
