1. Government launches
the .bharat domain name in
devanagari script.
- Companies can now own a
website with domain name in
devanagari script.
- It, as of now, will cover eight
languages including Hindi,
Konkani and Marathi.
- The National Internet Exchange
of India (NIXI) will soon also
launch the Internationalised
Domain Name ( IDN) in other
Indian languages like Bangla,
Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil and
Gujarati.
2. Centre sets up 'R Ramanujam
committee' to identify obsolete
laws.
- The committee is given three
months to enlist laws worth
repealing.
- Erstwhile PM Vajpayee had also
constituted 'Committee on Review
of Administrative Laws' in 1998,
which had recommended 1382
Acts for scrapping; only 415 have
been repealed so far.
- Apart from clearing that backlog,
the panel will also examine laws
that have become outdated
during last decade or so.

ambassador for Interpol's 'Turn
Back Crime' campaign.
- The campaign develops general
awareness on nature and scope
of crime and how everyone can
play a role in preventing it.

4. CS Verma, chairman of SAIL, is
elected as the inaugural President
of Indian Steel Association (ISA).
- The association will help the

- Steel producer with yearly
production exceeding 2 million
tonne are welcomed as members
whereas those with less
production can seek affiliate
membership.
