1. International Olymic Committee (IOC) revokes India's suspension in
the wake of recent IOA (Indian Olympic Association) election.
- Tirangaa to fly at the closing ceremony at Sochi Winter Olympics 2014.
2. Krishi Karman Awards presented:
- For total foodgrain production
Madhya Pradesh: gets the award in large category (over 10 million tonnes)
Odisha: in medium category (1 to 10 million tonnes)
Manipur: in small category (less than 1 million tonnes).
- In individual foodgrain crops
Chhattisgarh: for rice, Bihar: for wheat, Jharkhand: for pulses and
Andhra Pradesh: for coarse cereals.
3. Sikkim declares itself the 1st state in India to boast of 100%
sanitation coverage.
4. Uttarakhand gets its own AIIMS at Rishikesh.
- Its the 2nd AIIMS to be functional in India after the one in Delhi
which was inaugurated way back in 1956.
- Its the 1st of the total six AIIMS to be established under the
Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana
5. Abhinav Bindra clinches his 3rd gold-medal in the Inter-Shoot
Tri-series Shooting in the Air Pistol event being held at Hague,
Netherlands.
- He, the sole Indian to win Olympic gold medal, thus becomes the
first shooter to win 3 gold medals in this event.
6. 13th Mumbai International Film Festival 2014: 'Are You Listening'
by Bangladeshi film maker Kamar Ahmad Simon clinched the Golden Conch
Award for the Best Documentary Film.
- The Golden Conch Award for Best Documentary Film upto 60 minutes:
"In Between : Isang Yun in North and South Korea' by Germany's Maria
Stodtmeier.
- Golden Conch award for the Best Short Fiction Film in the National
Competition: 'Tamaash" (Kashmiri film)
7. Ranjit Bhatia, famous long and middle distance runner, dies aged 77.
- He was honoured with an Order of British Empire award for his
services to the game.
- He, a contemporary of Paan Singh Tomar and Milkha Singh, also was a
sports journalist and educationist.
8. Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI head N Srinivasan, has been
charged on account of betting by the Supreme Court instituted Justice
Mukul Mudgal committee.
- The committee was set up to inquire into spot-fixing and illegal
betting in the Indian Premier League last year.
9. Central Vigilance Commission Celebrates Golden Jubilee (50 years)
of its inception.
- It was created in 1964 to check corruption in central government.
- This, an autonomous body, is free of control from any executive authority.
